Arcane's grin lessened as Jackie discovered the twenty. He was hoping she wouldn't find it until they had parted ways and she would be stuck with it. Rolling his eyes, he sat down and sipped his coffee.
But, as Jackie got straight to business, the grin returned, slightly. "Oh, yeah, that figures. As soon as you find out what I can do, you immediately exploit me," he laughed. Quickly gathering his seriousness, again, he continued. "Of course I'll help." He could tell there was something seriously wrong and could also tell she wasn't going to tell him exactly what. So, he decided he'd agree and eventually find out what the problem was.
(A bit short... sorry!)

Jackie laughed rolling her eyes at his remark and offering some of the cookie at him. "Yeah, well I figured you may be some use with something..." she told him not saying more on the matter as she sipped her cold drink letting the chill go down her throat as she shivered with a grin enjoying the cold. She was rather odd. But what can you do with such an odd character?
Jackie smiled when he agreed. "Good, their is no backing out though," she told him with a edge of a threat. Her blue eyes bright with laughter, and something else...
"Ok, so I need your help tracking whatever monster attacked the other night. It's nothing to do with that night rather another. A old personal night..." she told him looking at her cookie as if it were something interesting as she avoided eye contact as tears threatened to stream once more. The blood filling her mind with grief at what she lost long ago, and now she fought so hard to find. Blinking away the soft tears that came close to falling she brushed her hand across her face wiping her eyelashes from the possible wetness but in the same motion brushed her dark hair back to cover it up. A smile back on her lips as she looked up as if nothing happened. But the strange light fading in her eyes still lingered faintly.

(Any ideas for a name for Arcane's half-brother when we get to that point? I was planning on adding it to Arcane's bio, adding him as a dislikes and everything.)
Arcane smiled kindly at Jackie, taking another sip of coffee. "So, the monster the other night, huh?" he asked. He hoped this wouldn't be all he did - hunt monsters. It would be a dangerous job since he, himself, was a monster and stayed with other monsters in a secret training ground. With his luck, Arcane would be told to hunt down a monster he knew and he would have to choose leading his own, monstrous life or the life he wished he had.
Deep in thought, he didn't notice Jackie discreetly wipe away tears - something he would normally have picked up. But, he would go along, for now, for the sake of the potential friendship between him and Jackie - something taken for granted in a normal life but rare in the life of a monster. "No problem," he smiled, knowing he was risking everything to be friends with someone who would probably kill him once she learned his secret. "Any better descriptions? I was a bit far away to see anything specific other than it disappearing in a blaze of fire."

Jackie shook her head "No. I need to find the dark one," she told him pulling out a folded sheet of paper age carried along with her at all times along with a newspaper article. But she hid the article and unfolded the drawing. It was a picture of her nightmare, the one that invaded her life so long ago and killed her parents.
"I'm pretty sure it's connected with this one..." she said pointing at her drawing. She had dreamt of that monster every night since her parents died. At least those nights she didn't spent tracking him and killing the monsters that got in her way. She looked at Carter wondering if he was still up for it. Leaning away from Carter one hand was on the drawing of the monster and the other was holding her drink as she studied it. Then looked back at the Demi-god not knowing if he'd back out.
(we can call him Carter so she gets even more confused xD or Pheoniceous.)

(Pheoniceous sounds fine. I can add a bit of a story to it since I have it as Arcane not having an actual name. He calls himself Arcane because he grew up in Rome (Arcane is a Latin word) and because of his ability to manipulate that mist stuff (Arcane means mysterious). Maybe Pheoniceous will be daddy's favorite or something and Ladon gave him a name?)
Arcane's smile left his face, withering into a scowl. The drawing she was showing him looked quite a bit like himself. But he shook the thought out of his head, knowing she would have no reason to hunt him down with such insistence she would ask someone she'd just met for help. "Of course," he nodded, not hiding his nervousness. Perhaps it was just a coincidence. Perhaps that wasn't him portrayed in the image. Perhaps things would turn out okay. Perhaps.
Taking another sip of coffee to help calm him down, hoping he wasn't getting in too far, Arcane leaned back for the first time since he'd sat down, resting against the back cushion thing (not sure what it's really called, backboard? I think that's for beds...). Sighing, he looked up at Jackie with a calm face but a hint of worry and distress in his eyes. "So, know anything about him... or her... or whatever?" he asked, hoping if she had any information it would prove to him it wasn't him she was hunting.

Jackie laughed “Information on this monster? Well here is a fact, he looks like a shadow and was kind enough to hide in my closet, then decide it was okay to kill parents when I was only a little girl,” her voice was a mixture of emotions, from rage to insanity. Such an action shaped who she was. Paranoid. Infuriated with monsters. Unforgiving. Out for vengeance.
If anybody is to blamed with her slight degree of insanity then it is this monster from her closet. Because of this shadow she went out at night and searched, killing all the monsters just for practice, even if they did no harm to her, killing all crazy demi-gods for being close to monsters, she killed anything that reminded her of that being, practicing for the day she would slice her special dagger through it. Naturally the dagger was hidden, it was her mother’s bronze to her. But Isaac said it wasn’t just any dagger, it was made of something special. But she couldn’t remember what he called it, all she knew was that with that dagger she could kill a monster, and then await until he/she came back from wherever dead monsters go just so she could send it back again. In a way killing monsters was a sport, she killed the easily found ones for practice, killed the killers for the prize of glory, and awaited for the greatest game to come, the match where either she would join her parents, or avenge them. Such a being caused her to be like this, and she was paranoid with this being.
Jackie studied him and frowned, her blue eyes flickering with a bit of regret and anger. Seeing the worry she said in a strangely calm and sweet voice “Planning on backing out? Or are you still up for it? Because if you’re not say so now, and you won’t have to help.” She told him, watching him with annoyance.

Arcane closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. The description resembled him but he'd never hidden in a closet, let alone a little girl's. Well, he has but only to do just that - hide. Plus, that was about 70 or so years ago. He's never attacked from there. Opening his eyes, again, at her question, he shook his head. "I'm not backing out of this." He, himself, was curious as to who it was. He had many siblings but they were all in completely different states, last he checked... though there was one up north in New York but that was at Niagara Falls and she was harmless, only eating the weakest mortals. "Just tell me what to do," he smiled.
Taking another sip of coffee, he realized they'd been talking a while as he was nearly out. Well, they hadn't been actually talking the whole time. There was quite a bit of silence on Arcane's part. It was a nervous, curious silence. He wanted to know who killed Jackie's parents almost as much as Jackie did as they looked so much alike it was almost scary.

Jackie grinned "Good. I'll show you my old house and you can check out all the stuff. I haven't let anyone in since my parent's death. Not like anybody wants to go in. They all think it's haunted." she snorted getting up and dumping the rest of her coffee into the trash can. The cookie though she held onto to eat on the way as she walked out of the coffee shop. Not really awaiting him she walked towards the street and watched the taxi cabs roll past. Halting one she turned to look at Arcane, but then turned to the cab driver telling him the adress and asking if he could make it there. Nodding she entered the cab and held the door open for Carter.

Arcane, still going by Carter, finished the rest of his coffee in one quick gulp, tossing the cup into the trash and catching up to Jackie. As she entered the cab, he hesitated, not fond of cabs. But he joined her, anyways, with the hesitation only lasting as long as it takes to blink an eye. "Haunted?" he asked, grinning. Still, the thought of someone out there looking like him was hiding in little girls' closets bugged him, but he didn't show his discomfort in his smile.

Jackie shrugged watching the Cab whirl past other houses "Haunted to them, to me...it's just memories..." she told him honestly as she watched the cab pull into a dark alley. The houses seemed to be crowding tighter together. She sighed. When she was younger it was lighter, more spacious...Now look at it...

As the cab slowed to a stop, Arcane slowly got out, assuming they'd arrived. "So, this is it?" he asked, motioning toward an empty-looking house. He paid the driver, since Jackie had paid for coffee and just used his attempt of reimbursement as a tip. The house seemed old and disused. It looked as if no one had lived inside for years - probably around 10 years, judging by Jackie's age.

Jackie nodded. Opening the broken door, the stairs were stained in red and the lights were off. Her parent's bodies weren't there, the police took at least that away. But they didn't bother with the stains. jackie froze at the doorway. Remembering how the last time she was hear with someone was when Isaac saved her.

When Arcane entered the house, he saw blood. No one had cleaned it up and it was everywhere. Or, at least, all over the stair and up on the second floor. Slowly, Arcane approached the staircase, making his way up toward a hallway above them, stained red. He would never do something like this. Whoever it was out there was giving him a bad name... or, a bad appearance, at least. "What exactly happened?" he asked, needing to know more but not wanting to push for answers. "The smallest thing can be a huge clue as to who it was."

Jackie blinked shuddering as she led him up the stairs and to her room. The book Robin Hood throw into the closet from when Isaac grabbed some random stuff. She picked up the book and brushed dust off. Cuddling it tightly. She then pointed at the closet. "It was hiding there. And my dad was reading me Robin Hood. I told him there was something in the closet..." her voice trailed off as she bit her lip and forced back tears.

Arcane laid his hand on Jackie's shoulder. "Well find who did this," he told her, sincerity in his eyes and warmth in his voice. But not waiting for a reply or any sign she heard him, he turned away and went into the closet, inspecting the walls. He knew some monsters that could inhabit inanimate objects for a while and maybe they'd inhabited the walls or the entire house. Shaking his head, Arcane knew that was highly unlikely. He wished he had a child of Athena here to maybe help him out. Then again, his luck the kid would figure out what he was and go berserk. Sighing, he turned to Jackie and led her to the small bed in the corner of the room - Jackie's old bed - motioning for her to sit.
