Shade was asleep. They all were. They had decided to set up camp here and rest. It was silent, and everyone seemed to be resting peacefully. Except for Shade. He tossed and turned, the nightmare was terrifying. It was a miracle he didn't wake anyone else up.
Shade was opened his eyes, standing up. He wasn't at the lake anymore. He couldn't see anyone. Everything around him black ad night. The shadows swirled around him in a maniacal laugh. "You will all die. You will all fail the quest. And you, Aaron Shade, will be killed by your own friends. You will be betrayed. Without your powers, you are useless." Shade stepped back at the sound of the voice. There was nowhere to go. He couldn't see. A dark shadow crawled up his leg and began to wrap around his neck tightly. It choked him with its freezing hold. "You've always belonged to us, haven't you? You're Shade. You don't belong there. They mock you. You're a useless weight to the quest. You can't fight for fear of injuring yourself. You can't use your powers for fear of exhausting yourself. What use are you to them? They'll cast you aside when they get the chance." Shade wanted to tell the voice to shut up. He couldn't move or speak. His throat couldn't get air. He wanted the grip to release. Somewhere in his mind, he knew that those words were true. Tears began to fall from his eyes. "Obey our will. We are the shades. Become one of us! Die and join us..."
Suddenly, there was a voice out of the darkness, "This is not the way to go. Release him."[/i]
"Ah, we apologize, my Lord. We got excited." The grip around his neck released. He found himself able to breathe again. Shade gasped for air. He felt his neck. The grip was gone. Shade couldn't tell who they were talking to. Then a black flame flickered to life in front of him. He recognized it immediately. A Hades fire. But...it was different.
"Do you find their words true, my son?" The voice was cold and brittle. It held an authority. It struck fear inside of Shade. But he knew this voice. It was his father.
"..." Shade couldn't really answer. He was just shocked by his father's presence, even if it was through a simple flame. "I...I don't know." He managed to reply finally.
"You want power, and you want to know about your past. I know that much. I put you through a lot of trouble. You must be confused. I will tell you when the time comes. But I need you to serve me from now on. I want you back by my side."
The words struck Shade and gave him a headache. Wanted him back? What did that mean? He had never been in the Underworld, had he? No...What...Something was interfering with his memories. What was this?
"I will make you strong. I will heal the scar on your back. I will give you full control of your powers. I will tell you what happened with Dodge."[/b] Hades continued on. "But you must do this one favor for me. Let me tell you a secret..."[/b]
Shade woke up, feeling the power coursing through him. He looked around. That wasn't a dream. He got out of his sleeping bag, studying the the sleeping faces of his friends. No, they weren't his friends. The secret from Hades made his vision burn with hatred and resentment. They weren't his friends. They never meant to be. A part of him wanted to scream back that this was all wrong. Was it all wrong. His vision began to cloud and he winced, covering an eye. Slowly his hazel eyes were turning into a hard black.
"See? Not so bad now, is it?" The shade let out a demonic laugh from inside him. "Yes...Let that hatred grow. Let me feed on it. Let me grow stronger! I will take it from here. I will help you fulfill your father's wish!"
Shade wanted to tell the possessing monster to get out. He tried rejecting it, but it was hopeless. It didn't go. "Don't struggle. Now, shall we start?
Shade walked over to Kat, hesitating. The shade took control, sensing his doubt. He tapped on her shoulder and said with his normal voice. "Kat? I need to talk to you."

Your mother bids well... the roses thought softly in the wind as they softly touched her face with their soft golden moonlight petals. Kat smiled and whispered back in a barely auditible voice that only the roses could hear. "Persephone...amazing how one moment you think your mother is somebody else and the next you find out it's actually your grandmother..." she smiled her green eyes bright and relaxed. Kat to be honest, even when she found out her mother was goddess of spring growth and queen of the Underworld. "Do you think?..." the flowers leaned away slightly I don't see why you should ever think about it. We don't think you can, your mother didn't originate from there so I doubt you can do anything. Most of the underworld creatures prefer Hades anyways. So they may not even like you...but I wouldn't try, it can hurt us...both... Kat shrugged slightly. "Just curious, but I doubt it to. Plants come naturally..." That's because were delicate...princess... they added the last part teasingly. Kat rolled her eyes "Delicate...sure with thorns and everything. Plus no titles for me. I don't think Hades would appreciate me being...around." the flowers made a small motion as if to agree. Yes...you want to be careful...you have no idea how many minds Hades can control. Your mother tells us how powerful he is. Their is a reason nobody threatens his thrown... Kat nodded in the dark as she curled up tighter and listened to them change the subject to the ongoings and messages from her mother and beloved grandmother.
Kat who was talking, or rather listening to the thoughts of flowers that night restlessly and happily opened her half closed eyes. The dream state only recently falling over her when she was tapped on the shoulder. Looking up she blinked and in a clear and soft voice she whispered her green eyes bright but dreamlike. A small whisper in the back of her mind as she opened her mouth to speak Be careful my child... but Kat didn't take much note of this and spoke
"What is it Shade?" she asked sitting up and looking straight at him. Slipping her converses on as she stood up. Her black jeans looking silver in the moonlight as seh brushed the little grass off of her clothing. A warm 'North Face' maroon jacket keeping her from freezing. Her blonde hair was slicked back in a ponytail so that she could see a bit better that night and her face was clean and spotless, due to the fact they were currently near water deposits.

"Well..." Shade shuffled his feet, taking on that usual shy attitude he had. He took sudden interest in the grass. His serious and quiet hazel eyes stared at his feet. The frickin shade. He tried to stop it, but it had complete control over him. It did its acting perfectly, taking on every characteristic he had. He tried to break its control, but something cold and hard was supressing his will, holding him back. "Don't struggle, my dear boy. The Lord gave this chance to me. I will see it through."
Shade glared, but there was nothing to glare at in the darkness. He could only watch what was happening like a movie scene. The shade blinked and looked up as Kathrine stood. "Shade" looked kind of nervous as if he had discovered urgent news. "Um, I think I found out some stuff about the quest. And I kind of wanted to talk about it alone...it's been troubling me."
Yeah right! What kind of excuse was that! Don't go! Don't pull her somewhere private...! He knew that the next event would be imminent.

Kat nodded "Ok. I'll go see what it is...but don't you think Terry or Matt will be more help?" she asked him her green eyes unaware of the shade controlling Shade. Grabbing her belt with her daggers and sword she looked at him. "Do I need to take my stuff or is it something small?" she asked

"Nah, it's just...I asked Terry before, and he couldn't really help. Matt, I don't think he could really help. And besides, I think it affect you more." The shade lied masterfully. It made the demigod sick of the dark spirit. There was still nothing he could do. "Let's go somewhere private, and it's just a talk. I don't see why you need your weapons."

Kat didn't know why something would pertain to her and not anybody else. Putting her belt with weapons down she nodded "Ok...I suppose." and she walked over to a spot a few feet away from the others, so if a monster attacked they could hear it and could see them. But it was far enough so that if they whispered they couldn't hear. "Is this fine?" she asked completely oblivious to the danger ahead.

"Yeah, it is..." Shade knew what was going to happen next. Before he could try to attempt to break away from the controlling spell again, chaos broke loose. A black shadow loomed over them. "Shade" stepped forward and touched her arm. He knew this sensation. Shadow travel. They were gone in a wink, even farther into the forest by the lake. They dropped into the middle of the clearing. Dead leaves crunched under his feet. He knew that even there was yelling and screaming, Matt and Terry would not be able to hear. Danger! How had he been so careless? Still the shade was in control
"Well, chat was rather simple." The creature snickered. "I hate talking in that stupid innocent voice" "Shade" brushed his pants of nonchalantly. His voice had changed. His hazel eyes were flickering, then settled into a hard black swirling with darkness. Looking into them, you could feel yourself drowning in misery.

Kat felt dazed from the shadow travel, and frantically the voice wasn't helping. Green eyes flashing in alarm she took a step back. "Who are you?" she asked fighting the fear that threatened to sink into her voice. Taking steps back she tried to slowly get away from the thing disguised as Shade. She would go plant travel. But the fact she didn't know where she was for one, and that this creature demonstrated the ability to control Shade's powers she could get stuck in a flower if he cut off it's roots.
But this wasnt something she enjoyed. For one she felt surrounded by enemies the shadows creeping around her. And the fact scared whispers rang in her head from plants wasn't something that gave her courage. Run daughter of Persephone. You won't beable to fight... the voice got under her skin sending discomfort through her as Shade's or the Thing's eyes flashed. "What do you want? Where is Shade?" she said a bit of fear flashing in her voice as she she backed away. Just get to the live plants and she will be safe. That's a good plan. Right? Just brush against a tree and disappear like a magic trick...

"So many questions." The dark spirit mused at her fear. He fed off of it, lived on the emotion. He didn't have any intention of answering her questions. He knew her powers very well. She would not escape. With a snap of his fingers, a black flame lit in his palm. He touched a nearby tree. Instantly the black flame consumed it hungrily. The fire spread in a wide ring around the clearing, lighting each and every tree in a full ring. The fire crackled evilly.
"Shade." The creature spat the name like it was poison, his black eyes bearing into hers. "The kid doesn't even know his own past. He thinks that you're his friend. He thinks you all are. He doesn't know who he was. Weren't you ever suspicious of what his background was? Shade is going to get his memories back. And I am here to take his place until he does just that."
What was he talking about? The son of Hades found himself able to stand. Everything around him was pitch black. He could no longer see Kat, or what was going on outside. Frustration lit his hazel eyes. What was going on? He walked around, hands out, trying to find a light source.
"Remember!"[/b]
The loud voice startled him. He looked around, wondering where it had come from.
"It is time to remember who you are!"[/b]
This time a pounding headache attacked his mind. Shade dropped to the ground, clutching his head. He felt like that if he let go, his skull would split. Images. Broken images swirled around inside his brain. Three Furies flying around. Taking rides inside a boat across a river full of discarded items over and over just for fun. Throwing treats to a three headed dog. Were these his memories?
"That's right. This was you. You lived in the Underworld. You always were beside Lord Hades. You were his little helper demigod. You lived here until ten. Where do you think you were before Dodge? The Lord cared for you. He wanted you to have a normal life. He erased your memory and put you with Dodge. He made you think you had lived your whole life with him. Now you started going to this useless camp. Made friends who should be your enemies. Learn your place boy!"[/b] Shade didn't understand. This was him? These were his memories? He wanted to fight them off. But they kept coming. Being scolded by a woman in the garden for walking through her pomegranates. Being taught the sword. Learning to trust no one. Eliminating intruders. Was this really him...? It was just all so wrong...
Back at the forest, the shade twirled a ball of flame in his hands. "You like dodgeball, little girl?" He laughed and threw the flame straight at her head.

Kat froze the trees were gone. She couldn't escape now. Green eyes widening she took steps back. Run. Run. That's all she had to do. As he launched his flame at ger she ducked. Sending vines shooting out of the ground to tie him up. "Stall him" she thought to them and turned to run. At least she can get a useless head start, at least of she died now she knew she was trying to stay alive.

"Cat and mouse. I love this game." The shade's voice was dripping with amused venom. He sprang forward after her, slipping through the forest. Each tree was lit with black fire, making escape impossible. He slipped into a shadow thrown by one of the flames and into Kat's own shadow. He appeared. Shade's right longsword fizzed to life out og the air. He swung his sword straight at her.

Kathrine jumped as he appeared out of her shadow. Rolling forward she avoided his blade and examples to get up and continue running. A making a large vine grow she touched it and disappeared reaperring at the opposite side of the meadow. Silently she tried to make ger way through the trees unsure which one will burst in flames next.

Terry had woken up. He was the hyper type, so he woke up constantly just to check for monsters. He noticed at first that Kat wasn't beside him. Then his blue eyes shot open wide. He got up, seeing a thick black smoke pour into the air. What in the-? Forest fire? No...Those flames were black. Shade...
Terry got up quickly and broke into a run. His feathers were in his hand. He scattered the two into the air as he leapt forward. Then he began to fly at top speed towards the woods. He was careful to avoid the smoke. He spotted Shade...attacking Kat. What was going on? He dove downward, staff flashing a bright golden in his hand. It appeared shimmering as he whirled it. He landed in front of Shade, placing himself between his friend and Kat.
"What are you doing?" For once, Terry wasn't smiling. He was confused, and slightly mad that his friend would attack her.

The shade blinked his black eyes in surprise as a flash of golden shimmered to life above him. He glared at the demigod that interfered in front of him. "Terry Coleman." He spat out the name with his venomous voice. "Do not interfere. Why protect a liar, and a bane to the quest. Your so called girlfriend never told you the truth." The dark spirit laughed, stepping forward.

Now Kathrine wished she brought her sword. Or at least kept a dagger on her at all times. Hearing these words she froze. A mixture of fear and confusion scrolling her. All those years for nothing? To get destroyed here? No, that won't happen. Glaring at the shade she made a large thick thorn grow. No need for a blade if you have one of these. Gripping it tight she glared at him. What was he? Her friend or a monster? Taking aim for him she hesitated. What if Shade died?
