Leon smirked, watching the exchange between Irissia and Arcane. He had regained the smug expression of a fox rather than a lion, but that was the usual face he wore. "So I'm a hypocrite, I know. It's okay, Arcane. Looks like I'm not the only one siding with humans. I agree with her getting rid of her nightmare once and for all, though."
He turned to look at Irissia, and then back to his friend. "I just found out the date of Tori's move to the Academy. I know that Kim is planning an attack on her, and I'm worried. I'm probably going to tag along, hide maybe. It sounds stupid, doesn't it? But I'm really worried about her." His gray eyes moved nervously to the side. His thoughts disregarded his current condition.

Irissia shook her head "Jackie knows monsters come back. So if she kills her nightmare, she'd know he'd come back, and probably for revenge. Making her even more paranoid. And not only that but her mortal parents won't come back, so killing the monster only to have him or her come back will make things awful. She won't stop. She'd become bitter." Irissia thought outloud. The daughter of Laelaps thoughtful.
Irissia shook her head at Leon "No. Not stupid. Sounds like love..." she said her voice drifting as Aphrodite's voice drifted in her mind i want you to go too...offer to protect my daughter and Leon... sighing she then looked straight at Leon with light blue eyes. "But going alone won't be the best idea. I'll go too. As a guard... If your worried it must be for a reason..." she told him.

Arcane grinned. "Not all humans," he said, wanting to clarify things. "I enjoy the company of a mortal - they're interesting. However, I still resent demigods. Thank you for understanding," he laughed. Shaking his head, Arcane turned to look at Irissia. "I've lived as a mortal all my life - I was practically raised by them. They are strange and, oftentimes, ruthless. Killing a killer brings satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment to a mortal - rather barbaric but it keeps them sane," he said, knowing Irissia's view of things was perfectly possible. However, Arcane would stick with what he knew and experienced, himself, instead of rationality.
"The Academy?" Arcane asked, surprised at Leon's decision. "Isn't that down south? Far south." He didn't want his friend to leave. "I would offer to come with you, as well, but I cannot leave Jackie, unguarded. Her reputation is growing and she's becoming a target - attracting attention." Looking Leon in the eye, he then asked. "Are you sure you want to do this?" It was a simple question but he feared they would never see each other again. Leon was his best friend and he knew from experience that once monsters lost contact, they often never regained it and, if by some miracle they did, it wasn't until centuries later.

Irissia frowned at Arcane "Does that explain serial killers? In a sense Jackie is one. Killing a monster doesn't satisfy her, if she truly was only out to kill her nightmare, why is she targeting other monsters that pose no threat," she asked Arcane frowning at his reply. Which didn't seem to be very likely.
"You plan on protecting a assassin?" Irissia laughed "I'm pretty sure Jackie can take care of herself. I think you and Leon need to watch out," she told him gesturing at Leon's wound.

Leon grinned at the two of them. He knew that Arcane probably had feelings for Jackie, and he didn't disagree. She was pretty cool if you ignored the coming-after-you-with-imperial-gold-bullets kind of attitude. That made her intimidating. He nodded at Arcane, seriousness touching his eyes.
"I have a centaur friend down south. He can take me back up for visits," he replied, "and I think she'll come back over the summer. So I will too." He looked at the two of his friends, and nodded to Irissia gratefully for her help. He had a feeling she was under orders from her expression, but he still appreciated it.

Arcane frowned as Irissia put up a good argument, but countered, easily, with, "Jackie sees every monster as a threat. You have to remember, she was a helpless mortal girl only about 10 years old or so when a monster broke in and beheaded her father in front of her. She hasn't had any real exposure to a kind, harmless monster. Of course she would find every monster a threat." Sighing, he added, "That's what I'm trying to ease her out of - introduce the idea that not all monsters are bad and even the ones that are mostly don't pose any threat to her."
"What happened to Leon, today, could happen to Jackie. Only, she wouldn't get help. Even the most skilled mortal assassin would be in trouble if a group of semi-powerful monsters ambushed her." Jackie was one of Arcane's closest friends and the first mortal he's ever befriended. He didn't want her to die before her time.
Arcane nodded, slowly, though still wishing his friend would stay. "I'm glad you'll visit, Leon, but this will ruin your reputation. I know that doesn't mean much to you, at the moment, but Tori will die, eventually. She lives a limited life. She'll age. She'll die. And you'll remain the same. What will you do then?" He didn't mean to sound harsh but it was the truth. Monsters are ageless. They never grow old and weary. Demigods, on the other hand, are gone relatively quickly. Most are killed off by monsters by the time they're 25. The lucky ones live to 50. Was Leon prepared for death? Arcane doubted it.

Irissia sighed "Honestly. Revenge won't satisfy her if it's not revenge. Her parents are dead forever, the monster won't be, and she knows that." the daughter of Laelaps never approved of revenge. Unless it was completely necessary. Which was rare.
Irissia nodded. Understanding what Arcane meant "I see what you mean. But I think she'll be fine, she has survived this long..." the girl stated crossing her arms and just listening and putting in her opinion. But it wasn't until Arcane's next comment that it hit her. "Leon is doing the same thing your doing Arcane. Protecting someone who will give them bad reputations and only live for a short period of time. Only Leon is a bit safer because his girl doesn't want to kill him, and isn't hated by many monsters for being a assassin," she told Arcane. Sure Leon had this Kim character breathing down his back. But Irissia had never even laid eyes on her, she only knew Kim from rumors, but she was no threat to Irissia. Seeing that Irissia never missed and if desired could just shoot an arrow at her. But Irissia wasn't one to kill unless necessary. So even if Kim was a threat Irissia would probably just shot to fatally wound.

Arcane sighed. "Look, just trust me. We have lived different lives, Irissia, and have had different experiences. For my entire life, I have gotten mortals to trust me so that I could kill them with minimal notice. That required getting into their minds and understanding their drives and purposes in life. I had to understand the mortal mind to survive. I have plenty of experience with them." Pausing, he added, "If I fail, though, it won't affect you much."
Then he shook his head at Irissia's second comment. "Oh, really? You are the first to find out about me and Jackie. No one else knows. And, if they do find out, all I'm doing is stopping a threat. If Jackie finds not all monsters are bad, perhaps she won't be such a dangerous assassin to us monsters. I'll receive praise, not humiliation," he said, grinning. Then, he realized what he'd just said in relation to Leon's situation and turned to him. "Um... no offense."

Irissia sighed not seeing a way she could steer Arcabe from such a belief. Though she didn't approve of this. She didn't like the idea of helping Jackie find her fear, it didn't sound right. Since its not a normal fear that can be beat, but rather a immortal monster that made her a paranoid lunatic.
Irissia bit back laughter at Arcane's excuse. Her amusement clear "Oh dear Arcane...your nearly as bad as Leon. Nobody would thank you, they want her dead and not a problem forever, they want revenge for being killed by a mortal." she told him shaking her head. She knew what pride was like, and of it was damaged, well people get hurt. And Jackie damaged the pride of many, a mortal killing the stronger monster? It made then sound weak. And it made Jackie a threat that needed to be destroyed.

(Okay, I've finally got everything straightened out with Kat, I believe. We'll make a thread for Arcane and Jackie where Arcane finds out she's helping, in which case he finally volunteers to go. She'll leave midway through the journey after she finds out Arcane is a monster, not a demigod.)
Arcane grinned, seeing he had won. "Wait, nearly as bad as Leon? In what aspect?" he asked, choosing to ignore the rest of her statement, knowing she was right. Still, he wouldn't admit it. Why should he? But he was, however, interested in what she meant by 'nearly as bad as Leon'. In what way was this like Leon's situation? Arcane saw no resemblance.

Leon was silent. Honestly, Arcane's question had successfully shut him up for a while. He was thinking, searching for the intangible answer. He knew already that Tori wouldn't live as long, but... "I guess that I just want to see her live a good life, no matter how short it is. If I can elongate it, then I will. I have forever anyway." He sighed, his viewpoint sounding completely naive after it was out of his mouth. He had really fallen for her, and he just realized this now.
He allowed them to talk like he wasn't there before interrupting with a competitive raised eyebrow. "Hey, hey, hey, wait. What? What do you mean you have it better than me?" he turned towards Irissia after Arcane, "And what do you mean "just as bad"? Is my situation really that bad?"

(I couldn't figure out what you were referencing because Arcane doesn't straight out say his situation is better than Leon's and there are multiple places where he's implied it... so I'll improvise! ) Arcane grinned. "Well, for one, I don't love Jackie." Okay, it was a low blow. Still, it was the truth. Arcane saw Jackie as no more than a friend and doubted he'd ever see her as anything more than that. Leon, on the other hand, had obviously fallen for the retched daughter of Aphrodite. It was unnatural, in Arcane's mind, for a demigoddess and a monster to befriend each other, let along fall in love! Still, he would go along with it, voicing his opinion on the matter when the opportunity presented itself but otherwise keeping quiet about the matter, not wishing to be outspoken.

"Oh come on!" Leon sat forward, looking up at Arcane with curious gray eyes. "Is it really that bad? she's pretty chill once you get to know her. The Fates are playing around with me." He paused, then turned his head over to Irissia with a tilted head. "You know...unless...it's some certain patron goddess of yours pulling the strings. Then again, I doubt she would want her in danger. Thanks for coming along, though, Irissia." He was truly thankful for her backup.
To be truthful, he was a little disappointed in the Jackie/Arcane situation going down the drain now that he had denied it so firmly. For a second, he thought he was going to have a friend similar to him here.

Irissia laughed at them "Not love. But you are willing to ruin yourself for her. Obvious something, but I think you may be right. Not love. Your not blind like Leon- no offense. And going to go get yourself beat up and outcasted for her, not openly like the little kitten right here is," she told them.
Irissia smiled at them "You both are utterly ridiculous. Arcane I was referring to the limitless amount you are willing to give up for a mortal assassin that will kill you once she finds out what you really are, at least Leon's princess knows who he is abd will accept him. And once everybody finds out Jackie's location I'm sure monsters will be paying her visits for killing them or their friends," she told them. "You two are both clearly getting involved with the wrong girls." she told them.
Irissia then headed towards the fact both girls will live relatively short lives "You two both are aware your mortal girls won't live long. Jackie is mentally unstable, once the Goverment finds out shell be locked up. Especially of they find all those weapons. Locked up and weapon less leaves her vulnerable for attack. Tori, she's a naive demigod. I doubt she can even shoot an arrow, an easy target. Fast snack. Defending either will make things clear...and the others won't take it kindly..."

Arcane shook his head, disappointed with his friend. "She's a demigod," he said, as if explaining it to a 3-year-old. "Say it with me: demigod! We eat demigods. Demigods are food - delicious food. They're the pawns of the gods. I hate the gods - don't you? Isn't that why we're here in the Subways? To train to kill demigods and, eventually, to go to war with the gods?" He doubted it got through to him but it made his stance pretty clear. He hated demigods with a fiery passion.
"Limitless amount?" the son of Ladon asked, eyebrow arched, upwardly. "I'm trying to help her mentality restore itself by showing her there is no reason to be paranoid. She can easily fend for herself. She'd be fine, afterwards. That'd do the monsters a favor, as well as taking out the mortal government's possibility of intervention." He felt quite accomplished with that statement. "So what if she's the wrong type of girl - I get bored, sometimes. I need a bit of excitement in my life."
