Lauren frowned at him "Rebirth?" she didn't know anybody could try for rebirth, wasn't that only for those who were needed, and she was obviously not needed... She had served her purpose, sorta like Shade was serving his. But rebirth seemed interesting. To restart life. But wouldn't that just make her memories disappear?
Lauren smiled "The weight of the truth eventually becomes too much for demigods, we will let something skip eventually," she told him.

Shade raised a brow, "You don't seem to like the idea. I thought you would jump at it," he smiled as she frowned, "but yes, rebirth. You can start a whole new life without remembering anything. Maybe you'll be a mortal this time." He shrugged at the possibility. it was more likely to be a mortal anyway.
"My truth is light enough." Shade replied to her smoothly, "I don't mind keeping it. Dark knows, and he bears it with me. He bears everything with- for- me. He would."

Lauren sighed looking at Shade "You never gave a reason to like the idea of wiping my memory clean and starting all over again. You are proof that I could possibly be born as a different person, what if it's for the worse? I don't know...it's not a displeasing thought but not appeasing..." she told him
Lauren cocked her head to the side "Dark? Is that your shadow?" she asked confused. The daughter of Apollo unfamiliar with the being.

"It comes with benefits. I can be the "little spoiled brat" of this place. Don't even deny it. I'm not deaf, and I can hear the rumors of ghosts." Shade returned to her, a little hint of bitterness in his voice.
"Shade. Dark is a shade. They're a special monster. They can link to your senses and control you. they're empty remains of lost souls. I link with him in a different way. My father helped create it. Now, he reflects my strength, shares my thoughts. He is my protector."

Lauren raised her eyebrow at him "I've never called you that. I'm still confident that their is still good in you, you just need someone to pull it out. And then you can be truly happy," she told him. Her blue eyes wide as she studied him "Because right now your just...content. But not happy,"
Lauren nodded at the description of Dark. "Oh. So do all children of Hades get protectors or just you?" she asked him curiously.

"There's still good?" Shade gave her a sour smile, "I was never good, just rational. What I do pertains to the good of few. But I can still do "good" deeds if they are my orders. Very much like the mortal secret agencies." He shifted, turning to start the walk once more. "And why would you want that? You're the first ghost who bothers with me, much less act kind." Most ghosts cursed him. The smart ones tried to gain his favor, but only because he was the son of Hades. Never had he met one that genuinely cared, but then again, this one could have been a talented bluffer.
"No, Dark served under my father already as it was. I went on a job and took him with me. When I found that he was easy to work with, I requested for him to be changed to my subordinate. It's rare that anyone gives their liberty to work for my father. None of my so-called siblings would get one."

Lauren studied Shade "Because I genuinely care. And when people care about others, even of death is in their way, will reach out to them." she told him. "Because I believe in you, and trust you I approached you," she then looked straight into his eyes the last part even more heartfelt "Because I knew who you were, and saw how great you were becoming I'm searching for you abd trying to help you," she told him.
Lauren nodded. "So was Dark always with you? Even while you were in camp?"

"Why would you..." Something unfamiliar sparked inside him, and his pale ears turned red. He coughed, turning away quickly. Was she just faking it or something? What the heck was with her. "No one goes that far for friends. I've seen so many mortals that talked big about caring, but ended up betraying. They were all the same. You're naive for caring about others."
"He was watching me while I was in camp. He does share a little of my experiences." He replied to her question of Dark.

Lauren frowned at him "I care about everybody. Because some people were dishonest when they lied and told you they cared doesn't mean everybody is. I died for Terry, Kat, and Matt didn't I? I would die all over again if you could become the real Shade," she told him honestly "I was born knowing my life wouldn't be worth anything unless you die for something..." she told him.

Shade whirled back around to face Lauren, his hazel eyes were consumed by confusion. Die all over again? For him? "Stop...ly..ing..." He swallowed hard, suddenly remembering Terry sitting in the field beside him. "I got your back, bro. I would die for you if I had to." He remembered that sinking feeling inside of him. The son of Hades had thought that Terry had been so stupid for thinking that way. Now her? "Your life is for someone else?!" He was starting to get frustrated, "That doesn't make any sense! You're just waiting for thanatos to come and jus-" He cut off, at a loos of what to say.

Lauren looked at Shade her light blue eyes thoughtful "What's do you think is worth dying for if not the people you care about? If we live it must be for a purpose, but life has no purpose without people to give it meaning. What's life being alone but nothing? And at least if you die for someone you care about after death you know you did everything to protect them," she told him softly.

"I don't have anyone to do that for! I don't need anyone! It just makes you waste your life. Without those distractions, you could..." He swallowed something stinging in his gut to tell him that he was wrong, "do much more..." He did have people he cared about. He had people that would die for him, though they were not exactly human. He would probably...maybe...

Lauren shook her head "Why is life worry living without these distractions?" she asked him softly. Their was literally nothing left to life of you took away the people who made it memorable or worthwhile. What would riches get you if nobody was there to admire them? What would fame get you if nobody was there to appreciate it? What would year's of training do if their is nobody to defend?

Shade was struggling to come up with replies now. He had never thought about any of this, and the topic of the conversation was starting to irritate him. "It's certainly more peaceful without distractions. Living for another person is exactly what I'm doing right now." He maintained control over himself, crossing his arms across his chest with a glint in his hazel eyes. "I have things to share with others in my life. I just would go die for them. They can...take care of themselves. And don't give me a "what if". They were weak in the end if they couldn't take care of themselves."

Lauren shook her head sadly "Shade even the strong need help. The higher up you are the faster and harder the fall. The strongest can't stay strong forever. And the weak Cabt become strong without someone there to help them," she told him "Nobody was born strong and undefeatable, everybody has had someone protecting them or guiding them to the point they do become strong,"
