Go back home...Got to get back...
The thought ran through his mind as he stumbled along the empty dark streets. In the middle of the night, it was never safe. He could sense the shadows tightening their grips on his ankle, keeping him from moving forward.
Stupid...stupid stupid stupid! Always getting yourself hurt! Can't you be more careful?
There were disadvantages to not wanting to hunt demigods any longer. Their scent was no longer appealing, and losing interest made you indifferent. He hadn't even decided to pay attention anymore. What about those that could sense him? The other way around, where they were hunting the monsters? Well, he hadn't thought of that.
Leon had payed dearly.
The first swipe had caught him off guard and left a good sized cut along his leg. Walking was difficult, and running was impossible. Good thing after a few desperate exchanges of bladed blows, the son of Athena had backed off. It had given him some time. It wasn't the demigod he was worried about though...
"That's very sad, Steel Lion, were you brought down by half god scum? You've lost your touch." The hissing sound of a snake passed through the shadowed alleyway, and Leon turned his defiant gray gaze towards the dark figure. "You ready to pay for sending us to Tartarus? We'll eat your precious little Aphrodite spawn as well. Tell us, why did you protect her? It was..unlike you."
He pushed his blonde bangs away from his forehead to get a better read on the situation. There were three of them. A dracanae, Lystragonian, and manticore. Things weren't going to go his way. The snake monster leaned against the wall, face in his. "You going to answer, son of the Nemean Lion?"
Bad move. Leon liked his space. His golden blade was in her gut in an instant, despite his sitting position. With a disgusting gag, the dracanae showered him with golden dust. "You don't deserve an answer, Lisa," he managed to gasp. The other two closed in on him, growling. "You don't stand a chance, Archer. Die for protecting a petty half blood. You are no longer stronger than us." He just narrowed his foggy eyes and raised his sword in futile defense.

Arcane had been wandering the streets, half looking for a demigod dinner and half looking forward to some relative peace and seclusion just to think about nothing in particular. Then, he heard it. A hissing sound, very faint, but recognizable. It wasn't a pure hiss like a snake but rather the hiss of a dracanae in mid-sentence. He crept closer, turning a corner to find none other than Leon outnumbered 3 to 1 and already looking wounded.
Before the onslaught of attacks could begin, he made himself known, approaching with his hands in his jean pockets, trying to look as harmless as possible. "What in the name of Hades is going on here, Leon!?" he practically yelled, this being the second time in a relatively short time period he's stumbled across a severely injured Leon. He seemed to always be getting into trouble but that just gave Arcane an excuse to bail him out.
He couldn't believe, though, that his threat was a group of fellow monsters and he wanted to know what his friend could have done to anger them to this extent. Under normal circumstances, most monsters wouldn't attack eachother like this. Instead, they'd fight and exchange some rather original insults. But not very often would you come across monsters battling it out to the extent this situation looked like it could go. The only reasons two or more monsters would fight is if it was a territorial thing or a fight over who eats the demigod. Neither seemed like it'd fit since Leon wasn't one to eat demigods, anymore, nor did he seem like the type to invade a territory - at least not without backup.

The Lystragonian took a hard swing at him, and he didn't have the time to react. He had to catch the blow on his blade to defend himself. With a clatter, his blade was on the ground. His senses were heightened by adrenaline, and he scented someone familiar. In his situation, he could definitely use that someone. Arcane arrived, shouting at him. Um, okay, so he deserved a scolding for not being careful. Well, the distraction came in handy, at least. With a swift kick with his unwounded leg, the Lystragonian giant was taken by surprise. He managed to roll away from the two, putting a good amount of distance between them.
He grinned at Arcane sheepishly, leaning against the wall. He must have seemed like nothing but trouble lately. It wasn't long before everyone knew and he would get kicked out of the subways. It was his only home, and he wasn't going to let that happen just yet. Leon would gladly go around killing all the monsters that knew about him being friends with Tori. Even with guards, the daughter of Aphrodite was targeted. She was just too easy as prey. These three had been hunting her before, and he had...um...dispatched them. Now they were back...well, now only one was back and still alive. How long before they returned again, and teamed up with his steadily rising list of enemies? His leaving was almost inevitable.
"Sorry, Arcane. Just had some personal business to take care of." He commented like it was no big deal. He must have looked pretty pathetic being wounded yet again in his eyes. The manticore spared no time leaping at him with a screech, "Don't hide behind your friend, Archer! He better not interfere!"
Leon stumbled back after knocking aside some spikes with his impenetrable arm, ending up beside Arcane with two very angry monsters glaring at them. "Got you stuck in something crazy again, didn't I? You should have just kept walking."

Arcane sighed, shaking his head. "Well, at least you can say you know how to have fun," he grinned. Drawing his bronze scimitar, he stepped froward, eyes squinted slightly in an inquisitive stare. "Now, tell me: why shouldn't I interfere? Scared of what might happen if I do?" he laughed. They were still outnumbered but he didn't care. He was confident he and Leon were more than a match. So Leon was a demigod sympathizer. Doesn't mean he isn't a good fighter. Besides, even if Leon weren't here, he could take them - or so Arcane thought. Maybe he was a bit overconfident....
"The day was pretty boring up til now," he laughed, head turned back to Leon. "Leave it to you to bring some excitement into my life!"

Jackie Diana Robbin. Robbin, now that was what she liked. She choose that name because that was the last book her father read to her. The old book laying delicately under her pillow. A treasure to her now since she collected it with Carter, or Arcane, but the demigod son of Nyx was her friend, but little did she know he was actually a monster. Not any monster but the same blood that killed her parents, that helped trigger her nightmares and caused her to be a unstable suicidal, bipolar, teenage girl.
Feisty, hot headed, that described Jackie at night. A bit unstable, dangerous. She wasn’t someone you wanted to come across when the moon was in the sky. But if you were a monster, especially one in the shadows, you’d be sure to face death. If anything Jackie was an assassin, she got paid for killing those ungrateful beings.
Her light blue eyes surveyed the shadows. She was fully equipted that night, why? Well she had a job, a call from an anonymous stranger. Little did she know this anonymous caller was a monster, the one who had called and offered 1,000 for the death of a Nemean lion offspring. A easy job, especially with the new weapon she had required from a weapons dealer, a stygian iron dagger collection, and an imperial gold sword. She of course had her older celestial bronze daggers she kept hidden, either in her hair or boot. And she also had a gun with bullets made of imperial gold. But the handgun was never used, she knew it wasn’t easy to obtain bullets for it.
Her black hair was slicked back, she wore black combat boots, comfortable and easy to run in. Black leather pants, and a motorcycle jacket which hid her angel white tank top that was torn and burnt on purpose for fashion purposes. In a sense Jackie looked potentially dangerous but completely safe. She looked like one of those motorcycle riding girls who were hard-core, but not cruel. Which wasn’t the case.
Arriving at the address she saw the back of two figures. The caller having shown her a picture of the back of Leon’s head. The dark shadows casting over her, she was silent. Not even the sound of her breathe could be heard. The monsters wouldn’t be hidden in Mist to Jackie, she had the power or gift to see through it. So to her they all looked like monsters. And she now understood why the pay was high, the Nemean Lion had scores to settle and was disrupting the peaceful night. Aim deadly she threw a celestial bronze dagger at Leon, unsheating her imperial gold sword automatically. Maybe those demigod traders weren’t very helpful in the monster’s points of view, supplying a rebel mortal with deadly weapons, stupid. But Jackie Diana Robbin could care less. Money was nothing. All she wanted was to feel the death of this monster. She wanted them all dead. The dark shadows keeping most of their identities hidden. Arcane unfortunately was not being noticed by the assassin. Who would also kill her new friend.

"You know not who you are defending. He has made more enemies than just the two of us. Remember Kim, Archer? He is coming with backup. He wanted to help us...ah...torture you to death." The manticore hissed, lashing out his tail with the spikes bristling.
"Um...appealing," Leon replied with a shrug. "Just have to finish you off first and leave before the chimera comes." Yeah, sure, he was on a first name basis with these monsters. They kind of...um...used to be his posse of a sort? Not really, he just hung out with them and let them do all the work. They never really opposed hims out of fear. Until now. Dirty chance-takers.
"Hey, I'll give you all the excuses later, okay, Arcane? Thanks for helping me out though. For me, I'd rather be bored than have to deal with these guys." He eyed his sword that had fallen off to the side by the Lystragonian's foot. He seemed to get what he was looking at, because the giant picked it up. "Now I'm going to have to wash that." Leon muttered. The manticore shot those stupid long ranged spikes, and the son of the Nemean Lion skidded forward next to his friend, deflecting the spikes that could have hit him.
Before he could make any other move, Leon turned around right into a bronze flash of a dagger. No way! Had they come already, or was it just some attacking demigod or...? He didn't have time to think as the blade sunk into his side, dropping him to to ground. "Ouch..." he winced. forcing himself up with a hand, glancing in the direction where the projectile had come from. "Mortal?" Well, that's what the smell had told him. He didn't expect an explanation. Even mortals hunted monsters now? He coughed, scooting away as the manticore shot another row of spikes at his head. His stupid leg wouldn't hold his stupid weight, and now he had this dagger to deal with. Pull it out and suffer from blood loss? Well, it was the only option. Leon yanked it out with a small growl, gritting his teeth. He pulled some bandages from his pocket, wrapping the wound once, which was pretty much all he could do at the moment, being in the middle of a fight. His sword...if he just had his stupid sword...

Jackie lunged forward when he pulled out the bandages. Her movements swift, quick, elite, and admirable. She was clearly trained. Experienced. The imperial gold sword was aiming for a death, a clear strike through his chest, through his lovesick heart.
The mortal girl was unaware of the fact this was a friend of Carter, and the very same monster she was getting paid for hunting by Tori's father. Well she didn't know the second part until she caught sight of his face "So your the fool messing with the princess," the princess, a nickname given to Tori by some of the kids around the block. The blonde was about as oblivious to the world as a rock. She was like a princess in a tower, beautiful, loved, but inexperienced.

Arcane laughed at the manticore, though ready to attack at the slightest movement. "We all make enemies and trust me, you don't want me to be one of your's." With that, he took a swing, his only reply to Leon being a brief nod. His scimitar gleamed with every slice. Then he heard Leon mutter 'ouch' though the Lastrygonian hadn't attacked - Arcane had been watching it out of the corner of his eye. He leaped out of the range of the manticore's tail, though still in range of the needle-like spikes. He caught the scent of a familiar mortal and sighed. Well, the night's just gotten a bit more interesting. The one night he doesn't wear something with a hood, he needs to conceal his face as much as possible. He'd have to admit the truth to at least one of them if Jackie saw him, which was pretty inevitable.
He wanted to help Leon but he couldn't attack Jackie - she was paranoid enough, already. Maybe he could stay out of the whole thing? He'd try. Returning to the fight, he stabbed out at the manticore before taking another slice. If this became an everyday thing, he'd be kicked out of the Subways right with Leon. Well, it's not like he'd grown to like it all that much. Besides, he still had his original place in the Subways, though they were in a different section, away from the training grounds.

He was just slipping the bandages back into his pocket when the mortal girl appeared, wielding a gleaming golden sword. Leon sprang out from the corner, her blade making a metallic clang against the alley way. She was trained, and faster than he had anticipated. Great. Super mortal monster assassin?
"Princess? Um, I'm pretty sure I don't understand what you mean, miss. I'm pretty sure I've never met any royalty before." Leon joked, wondering who she was talking about. He had messed around with a bunch of people before that would easily want him dead.
He moved away, turning around to meet a charging Lystragonian. With a swing of brute force, the giant sent Leon's own blade against him. The son of the Nemean Lion caught the attack with one hand, lifted into the air. With a quick wrench and a wince at his extreme movement causing his wounds to flare up in pain, he had regained his sword. The monster roared at him for the twisted wrist, and he smiled. "It's my sword after all, buddy." He raised his blade, moving away as the giant smashed a crater into the street where he had been before a moment ago. How long could he keep this up, he wondered? He didn't want to hurt the mortal, and he had to get out before Kim's monster posse came. That meant Arcane had to kill the manticore and he had to end the Lystragonian- while dealing with the agile Jackie without hurting her. Ugh, complicated. Maybe he could manage.

Jackie spun the imperial gold sword. Knowing exactly how dangerous it was to monsters. As soon as she missed she spun to attack once again. Determined to kill. When he took his sword back she sliced her blade through the air, having come up from behind. "Sullivan Tori, I know you know her. The daughter of Aphrodite was an easy target wasn't she?" Jackie hissed. She didn't care for Tori, never really having meet her except for brief courteous conversations before Jackie headed off to private school and Tori stayed with tutors. But she thought she was nice enough.

Arcane kept attempting to fight off the manticore without drawing attention to himself, turning into a dragon, turning his face towards Jackie, or using his powers - all of which would reveal himself to the mortal one way or another. He was sure she knew he was there... she just didn't know it was him, yet, and Arcane was determined to keep it that way. Once he fought of the manticore, he'd help Leon out maybe by turning his attention to the Lastrygonian but, until then, he would have to focus on keeping his identity a secret and his multiple lives from colliding and possibly ruining everything he'd worked so hard to build.
Of course, it was all too difficult. A manticore was difficult to defeat, normally, but while trying to hide? It just wouldn't work. Instead, he thought quick, transforming into his dragon form since, although Jackie would probably turn on him instead of Leon, his mortal identity would still remain a secret and he could keep up his demigod charade.

Leon turned away from the giant, blocking her strike with his own blade. Both swords glimmered golden in the light, and he knew immediately that Jackie was holding imperial gold, like his. He couldn't get hit by that. Tori Sullivan. She was everywhere now. These monsters were here for the same thing almost. He couldn't protect her, and he couldn't prove that he was trying to protect her. "Easy target? I'm not trying to eat her!" How many times did he have to explain that? He was getting attacked here by a monster gang for killing them for trying to eat the daughter of Aphrodite. "Did her father send you?" He asked simply, getting cut off as the Lystragonian let out a roar, catching him with a grab and lifting him into the air.
"I'll kill you, Archer! Die for protecting a lousy demigod!" His grip constricted, and Leon winced, taking a risk. He threw his sword, hurling it straight into his opponent' skull. "I don't...think so." The giant turned to sulfurous powder, and he was released, crashing to the ground next to his sword. "Ow, man..."

Jackie spun the blade after the collision lunging forward once again as he crashed to the ground, having destroyed another monster "Does it matter who sent me? My job is to get rid of you beasts," she hissed in a deadly tone. Her voice was no longer her's it was dangerous, cold, it sent shiver's up the spines of those who heard it. Jackie's light blue eyes were dark with pure hatred towards Leon and all other monsters. She didn't believe any monsters, she knew they would come back. So as far as she was concerned this was all a charade.
But then Arcane's monster form caught her eye. She froze. Rigid still. Her muscles tense. And she blinked. A new flash in her eyes. One that was filled with 100x more hatred than before. One with determination, driven by revenge. "YOU!" she bellowed at Arcane. "YOU KILLED MY FAMILY!" she yelled angry. Her face turning red as she threw a dagger at him. She was shaking as she abandoned her attack on Leon. She wanted Arcane now. She could careless about Mr. Sullivan's money, she had her own. She wanted this beast killed. She wanted to send her blade through him and watch him die. Though she knew he would be reborn. She wanted him to know she would haunt him. She would hunt him down, and she wouldn't stop. Not until she was dead.
This monster had caused enough trauma in her life for her to be scared. She was insane to a point. She was paranoid. She had a psychologist, and she had a secret life killing monsters due to one. She was bipolar. She was two people. A paranoid, insane, daring, bold, quick-witted, monster-hunter by night. And a beautiful, kind hearted, good humored, social, and clever teenage girl by day.

"You, my dear, need to take a day or two off." Leon groaned in reply. He rolled away and caught hold of the hilt of his sword. He was wide open to Jackie for a moment, and she could've finished him off, but something else caught her attention. He blinked as she turned on Arcane, sending a dagger zipping towards him. Leon got to his feet, abandoning his sword and racing forward.
"Hey, I would appreciate if you didn't attack my friend...He kind of just saved my life." He muttered under his breath, lunging forward to tackle Jackie to the ground, he silently prayed that his friend would hurry up and finish off the manticore. For now, he would keep the mortal girl occupied without injuring her to the best of his ability....and that probably meant getting stabbed a few more times if he wasn't careful enough. Recklessly tackling someone was not being careful.

(Haha, I actually said he was trying not to become a dragon but I added another paragraph... I'm adaptable! xP)
Arcane lashed out in a flash, impaling the manticore's neck with his razor-sharp dragon fangs. Needless to say, the manticore turned to dust, immediately. He turned to see Jackie struggling to kill him with Leon keeping her back. He couldn't reveal who he was so he opted to remain a dragon. Of course, that didn't mean he'd play offensively. Instead, he backed away, slowly, though still ready for anything to happen. He knew Leon wouldn't hold her for long and once he lost control, she'd chase after him 'til she died of exhaustion.
