Garret had a completely different thought in mind. Max just rolling in his mind until he without thinking asked Pyre "So how is Max?" the subject not being brought up for a reason and realizing what he said Garret felt the color rush to his face and he stammered to reorder his words "I mean, how is Max after the dance...we haven't spoken to her since..."

Pyre's eyes filled, momentarily with rage and insanity, only to be replaced a moment later by their normal, kind shade. "Fine, I guess," he said, without a care. It was true, he still had slight feelings for her, but he could never act upon them after what had happened at the dance. Perhaps they could again become friends, but that would take time and a bit of memory erasing. In other words, Max makes one wrong move and Pyre will make her life a living hell.

Garret felt uncomfortable even after Pyre's momentary rage passed. Pyre was probably still mad at Max, and well he was her cabin leader which would suck in her part. Forming his plan he was thinking about that night starting to get excited but he didn't show it. So maybe Pyre didn't have feelings for her! Maybe he just didn't forgive her and wouldn't care if he still asked Max out. Garret shrugged not going to bother telling Pyre his plans, since he might steal his date again. "Oh...um...so have you talked to her lately?..." he asked hoping Pyre would say no.

Pyre nodded his head. "Yes, actually. I told her to clean up the girls' side of the dorm!" he smiled, wondering if she got the point. If she ever did something like that, again, he'd have her cleaning the boys' side, too. At the same time, though, he hoped he wasn't too hard on her. He did understand how she must have felt, having to choose between her two best friends. Maybe he should apologize? No. He wouldn't. She could have at done something to where Max didn't have both Pyre and Garret at the dance at the same time. Maybe she could have said no to both because she couldn't decide and accepted for each of them to take her on a date and see how that went?

Garret grinned. But not for Pyre's reason. His thoughts along the line of 'good. Now I definently can get her tonight...' his sea green eyes sparkling with his hidden thoughts as he glanced at the building thinking if when he should prepare everything. He couldn't be too romantic since she may still be hurt but rather remind her of old times...grinning he rubbed his hands together as if cold but actually lost in thought.

Pyre's smile turned from pleased at his revenge to kindness and carelessness - the traits that made him so well-liked by the other students. "So, what's up?" he asked, wanting to talk but having nothing to talk about. He reflected upon the last real time they'd all been together as friends, him, Garret and Max. It was during a race on the high-ropes course. Things seemed so easier back then, before all the confusion. It finally hit him, how much things were changing. Garret was about to graduate and become a teacher. Max had cheated them both. Sabrina knew his secret. And Pyre was getting ever-closer to losing everything he worked to achieve.

Garret blinked "Er...ohh yeah. I'm practicing filling out some files...um...I dunno haven't done anything interesting lately..." he said but knowing that tonight would change that and that he would definently try to get Max for himself and not to share with Pyre.
"Wow. Can you believe graduation has snuck up on us?" he told Pyre though Pyre still had a year. Garret was just trying to continue conversation.

Pyre nodded, only half paying attention to the conversation. He wanted it to continue, he wanted to be able to talk like they used to. Before, he and Garret could talk about anything and everything. They'd find some stupid, funny twist to the weather. Now, it seemed like they had just met and were trying to make small talk as they were figuring out the others personality. Before the dance, they had been best friends but now it seemed like... like they were drifting apart. Was that because of Max... or was it just life? Pyre wasn't sure but he hoped it wouldn't last. He hoped things could go back to the way things were. Maybe, if he kept hoping, his wishes would come true.

Garret decided to drop the subject. Since Pyre didn't seem to be taking the bait. "I suppose life has been shit then. To be honest." he grinned looking at Pyre before opening the thick file and skimming through. He then pulled out a picture of Max, Pyre and Garret laughing and holding up some sort of trophy for winning the team challenge SCA hosted a couple years back between the students, the teachers, and other magical beings. They were all happy and about the age of 13 or 14. "I miss those times..." he said honestly. This was before he skipped a grades since he knew he would be staying on SCA like many other demi-gods even after they pass the standard curriculum. Garret knew his life would stay on this campus, but he didn't mind, at least not back then.

Pyre smiled, warmly, remembering the days when things had been so simple, so carefree. He remembered how Max had done most of the work in that challenge - how without her, they'd never have won. "Yeah...," he sighed, "so do I."
Back then, he had been so calm. He didn't hide his insanity - he had no insanity. He was completely normal, all things considered. He had been dealing with his murdering his best friend pretty well. Now, he couldn't take his mind away from the memory of that day. The day that led him here, where he was, now. The day he'd become a killer. The day he'd become a demigod.

Garret sighed "I really wish I was Max and could rewind time just to relive it..." he said smiling wistfully. But shurgged the feeling off. He had no need to relive their past, sure he wanted to. But he knew that reliving it may change it, and he wouldn't want to change a second of it.

Pyre nodded, knowing that if he could change something in the past it would be the arguments and occasional fights he'd gotten into with Garret - however few there were - and maybe, if he could, change the dance. Time seemed to be going by so fast, now - too fast for Pyre to keep up with. Now, everything felt like it was crumbling around him. Still, he had some hope for the future.

Garret then added "But hopefully the future would brighten and things would be better than before," he said trying to bring some joy into their conversation. His grin bright as he rose the files ad if they were a toasting goblet. Then he pointed at them "PS, it's currently a goblet, not files. but you can't drink from it," he added with a grin

Pyre drew his sword - the only thing he had with him - and touched the hilt to the files. "And no drinking from my sword, either," he grinned, going back to his usual, carefree self. "To the future." He realized just how separate their ways would go. Pyre was a child of a wind god - minor and harmless in a monster's eyes. He would probably live peacefully in the mortal world. But Garret would be stuck in SCA. Maybe, once Pyre got things sorted after his graduation, next year, he would buy a house close-by. Maybe they wouldn't be all that far away. And maybe things could go back to the way they used to be between him and Max, too.

"A great time, and a even better future. Both of us best friends and Max as well!" he cheered grinning. He wished he had a camera, to take a picture of this moment. To capture their joy and amusement. To capture everything they had been through and look at it again later.
