There are very few things that are a certainty in this world. One of them is that things change. Nothing stays the same. This is precisely the fate that has befallen the X-Men, and the Brotherhood alike.
The year is 2017, and it has been almost seven years since the battle on Alcatraz Island. Both teams thought they faced their greatest challenge on that day. Little did they know what was to come.
Missions failed. Suspicions arose. Fingers were pointed. Rumors were started, and the whispers in the halls of the X-Mansion and the corridors of the Brotherhood Underground Bunker did not improve the state of things in either group by any means. It was decided that information about the inner workings of each group were being broadcasted to opposing factions. Surely this would explain the strange happenings?
Words had been exchanged. Fists had flown. And before anyone could realize the height things had reached, the damage had already been done. The X-Men had fallen apart.
The destruction of the school by an unknown party was the final incident that bound the school and its inhabitants into the struggle--a twisted mix of loyalty, perception, and trust. The Mutant Eradication and Extermination Group's activities and the Brotherhood's standing took to the sidelines with the X-Men's perceived dissolution, those at all ranks taking sides, rethinking their own beliefs and loyalties, struggling to find again where they belonged among the turmoil.
Lingering on the minds of many was the question of how everyone would fare, how things would change, how they would press on, when the storm passed--if it even did at all.
