Jackie nodded "So the demigod community is close here?" she asked curiously. Jackie honestly not liking demigods much either, for the mere fact she saw them as cocky air headed naive people. And even some had abilities they used to their advantage which annoyed Jackie more than anything else.
Because honestly who likes having to work for attention when a demigod just bats her eyelashes and has everybody at her service?

Carter shrugged. "About as close as the mortal community. News gets around in both," he replied, not wanting to get too detailed with the demigod community. You'd think if he was going to masquerade as a demigod, he'd get some info on them. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. He'd been too busy, lately, and just didn't have the time to check up on the demigod community. So he didn't want to delve too deeply in the 'facts', afraid he may say something to tip Jackie off.

Jackie nodded. Nearing the house. Looking at him she raised an eyebrow "So do you need more weapons? I can loan you some," though honestly she thought he must've some powers to help him fight since he never seemed armed. Then again neither did she and she had daggers and 2 hand guns on her.

(Oh, yeah, that's right! Jackie's never seen Carter's powers!)
Carter shook his head. "I'm fine," he said, not realizing she didn't notice his blade. He'd grown so accustomed to concealing it, he did so, naturally, now, never allowing it to show.
The trip to Virginia was growing closer with every step and Arcane wondered how he would explain to Leon and Irissia to keep quiet and act as if they'd never seen him, before. Sure, they would probably be traveling, separately, but they both defended the same demigod. Hopefully, they'd just play along. Otherwise, his separate lives would come crashing together and he would more than likely lose Jackie's trust.

(nope)
Jackie shrugged. Her eyes turned back to the house "Well here we are. You don't have to come." she told him nearing the house as she walked to the large gate and ringing the bell. A small voice speaking as Jackie ignored it "You can head back, I won't be mad." she told Arcane.
Then turned to the small machine "Jackie Diana Robbin, i'm here on Mr. Sullivan's request." she told the machine which buzzed the gate opening. Normally Jackie would beable to get through without going through this system. But today she was killing time. And she figured she might as well try to ring the bell she never bothered with before.

(Well, she has but she didn't know it was Arcane, I guess. Hahaha I'm so confused as to what to call him! Maybe I'll have him abandon the name Arcane for the most part just to make things a bit simpler... Maybe once he and Jackie actually start dating or whatever he'll abandon his monster identity as much as possible, no longer eating mortals or whatever, in favor of a more normal life.) Carter shook his head. "I need something to do - it gets rather boring up here, especially with no one to talk to," he said, smiling. "I'll go." Following Jackie through the gate, they approached the house at a slower pace than what Jackie usually traveled. (Soo lazy... )

(No problem. My posts feel like they are right now ) Jackie shrugged "That could be so for you," she hadn't meant to be rude. Honestly she hadn't really even thought of her words. She just meant more of a, she'd rather not be here right now but she needed the money. The mortal assasin had other things in mind that could be done at night. That didn't involve the party she had been invited to, and will not attend. Even if she showed up for the endings or beginnings typically, she wouldn't do so on a night with a specific job. She kept her lives quite organized. Though their was a moment when she was caught slicing someone's throat, having ran out of other weapons of killing so she had killed a demigod for the money, and she slipped through the window into one of her friend's houses and to the party. Escaping being persued in a crowded house. It could possibly be called cruel, killing demigods and monsters for cash just to kill more of them, but it was what she had become after Isaac died. Though the dead son of Helios would have never imagined he was training an assasin, he believed to be preparing her for meeting her tormentor, not preparing her to become a killer.

Carter shrugged, replying, "I'm mostly a loner. I make a few friends here and there but they never stay, long." Deciding to add a bit of his fantasy life to this true statement, he continued. "I'm sort of like you in some ways - I fend for myself. Most demigods go to Camp Half-Blood where monsters are unable to enter because of this weird magical border or whatever but I'm not generally one for large groups and cheeriness. I look at life as realistically as I can; I don't fool myself into thinking it's a beautiful place with kind people. It's dangerous but it's home. I have to protect it, not relax in my little bubble where nothing can hurt me."
His words had turned cold, quickly, speaking of how he did, indeed, see the world, oftentimes. However, it wasn't the complete truth. For one, he wasn't a demigod but the 1600-plus year old son of a dragon. Secondly, he did have friends and they did stick with him for years. However, years to a monster is like mere weeks to a mortal - gone in a flash. He did, however, keep to himself, oftentimes. He was a loner for the most part and led a very secretive life. In fact, he was leading one such life at the moment, though it would inevitably crumble. Hopefully, that wouldn't be for many more years, however, as he enjoyed his time with this mortal and wanted it to last as long as possible.

Jackie paused listening to him. Her blue eyes returning to him "Safety is good. I would have rather had that to begin with than what I have now," she told him quietly. She didn't like being unstable, the moments when she was completely sane and looked back she felt ashamed. She wished she wasn't like that. But she couldn't stop it...

Carter glanced at Jackie, nearing the house. "Even while others suffer?" he asked. "I thought that was why you did what you did - to keep others safe. At Camp, you're kicked out once you reach a certain age and are forced to survive in the real world without experience. Most die within the first several years; the lucky ones reach forty," he said, coldly, though his bitterness not directed at Jackie but, instead, was only part of his ruse, though he was regretting bringing up what he did.
"Safety would be nice, but it isn't permanent. You have to constantly make sure you're ready to take on the challenges of the mortal world or you'll never be prepared. What better way than to live in this world - a real world, rather than one secluded from danger?"

Jackie froze. "I don't care about anyone but myself. I have nobody worth fighting for," she told him icily. It may be selfish. But she had to be independent. Or else her job could harm someone else. "I kill for me, I kill for training. Not for someone else's safety. If I get a job I do it like training, but I get paid. I won't turn something easy like that down." she told him calmly. Honestly dripping coldly into her voice. Maybe she could be viewed as a murderer then...she does just kill people for the thrill of killing...for the satisfaction of being one death better at taking the life of the one she wanted killed.

Carter smiled. "And what of your adoptive father? Wouldn't you want to protect him after all he's done for you?" he asked, head tilted to the side, slightly. "And what about your friends? I'm sure you have some." They neared the door and Carter look over at his friend. "We're here," he said, simply. There was no telling what they would face on this trip, guarding a targeted demigod daughter of Aphrodite. He would never have thought he would end up doing such a thing as this, still harboring a hatred toward demigods. He'd long pitied mortals for being the target of monster for food purposes but demigods were a monster's enemy. They always had been and always will be. Now, he was about to help one.

Jackie shook her head "People die. If they couldn't live then it was because they weren't supposed to last long or weren't strong enough," she said bitterly. She didn't really mean it. But it was her only reply at the moment as they arrived in front of the door. "You can still turn back," she told him glancing to check on him before returning her light blue eyes to the door and ringing the bell.

Carter was taken aback by her tone, recalling the moment he'd first met Jackie. She'd mentioned fate yet here she was saying she'd give in to it if it was meant to be. "I'll stay if you'll have me," he smiled, an emotion foreign to him crossing his mind. One he hadn't felt since Shakespearean times. Only for a moment, a single, fleeting moment, he felt something stronger than friendship toward this girl but pushed the thought away. She was mortal. She wouldn't last long.

Jackie paused. About to reply. But shook her head thinking better of the first words. "any wounds you receive are your own..." she muttered simply. Jackie's focus was currently killing. Killing for the money. Killing for the training. Killing for the joy. That was her current focus. She had no time for anything else.
