Carter was distraught from his most recent battle. He'd found his best friend, Leon, helplessly outnumbered and joined in to help him out. But something surprising happened, something unexpected. Jackie Diana Robbin, who believed Carter to be a demigod, had arrived, targeting Leon. Carter was stuck, unable to go anywhere without leaving Leon to die. He couldn't, however, let Jackie see either his mortal form, dragon form, or powers - she would recognize him and see he was allied with monsters or, even worse, was one, himself.
But he had been forced into action, transforming into what looked to be the very dragon that had slain the poor mortal girls parents before her eyes. Jackie had had a mental breakdown and lashed out with pure hatred at Carter/Arcane. Of course, he wasn't about to fight back and had to resort to fleeing.
Now, he was worried about his friend. She seemed so unstable and he knew her mind must be a mess, seeing the image of the monster that had killed her parents so long ago. He climbed the fire escape, as he usually did when meeting in secret with Jackie, and gave a couple taps on the window. He could hear movement and soft clangs of metal within the room but did not wish to barge in on her, unsure of exactly what she was doing.

Jackie had the stereo blasting music as she started pulling out her weapons chest. A line of daggers, poisons, swords, guns, bullets, etc... Shimmering in the room light. All obviously either imperial gold or celestial bronze. Slicking her black hair back she looked in the mirror her blue eyes blazing. So the monster that killed her family was back... She would rather spend her days hunting him through the streets but she was running out of money for the newer weapons, so she had taken a job from Mr. Sullivan as a guard.
Squirting hand sanitizer on her hands she then started tying the leather laces of her black boots. Carefully sticking daggers into the inner pockets after she finished. She picked up the poison bottle dipping every dagger into it, a small cut will make you burn, a large one could be fatal. So she had pockets built inside her leather boots for concealing there daggers and insuring they didn't rub up against her skin. Even if she wore long black socks for safety reasons.
Her jeans were black skinny jeans, but the material was queer being fireproof and rather expensively made. Clipping on a belt she lined up her bullets and placing them in a small row on her belt which was made to hold them. Pulling out two identical handguns she placed them on the dresser, those two being the last things she armed herself with. Jackie was clearly loading up in weapons. A bit more carefully today than every other night seeing that her nightmare was prowling the streets and a naive demigod had to stick close.
Looking back up at the mirror Jackie shook her head. She did look lethal. Not like a good mayor's daughter she was. The white tank top she wore reflecting a small silver chain that hung around her neck. A small bird charm on the end from her mentor Isaac. this is what I was training to do.. she thought pulling on a black leather jacket which was already concealing daggers. Some poisonous some not, but either way all of them lethal to monsters. Just as she started snapping the chest closed she heard a small knock. Turning down her stereo she kicked the chest under her bed. Weapons carefully concealed she walked over to the door opening it only to face Carter.
"Come on in Carter," she said walking back and picking up the guns on her dresser and placing them in her belt as well before turning to face him grabbing a her wallet and placing it in the inside of her jacket. A small glint of imperial gold seen for a moment before she walked back to the door closing it and locking it up quietly. "So what brings you here?" she asked him as she started opening her window to leave. Jackie already heading over to Mr. Sullivan's. The assassin didn't look armed, she kept her weapons concealed for the fact other mortals would freak out if they say her waving a dagger. But the fact she had just armed herself with two identical hand guns made it obvious to Carter she wasn't unarmed. And the fact she was taking two made it obvious she was more armed than usual.

Carter found Jackie seemingly weaponless, despite hearing faint sounds of metal hitting together every once in a while over the sound of music. Climbing in through the now open window, he flashed a smile at Jackie, who he found was now holding two identical handguns, no doubt loaded with Imperial Gold bullets like the one which had shot Leon.
He wanted to check up on Jackie after she encountered him in his monster form, believing him to be her parents' killer. However, he'd never really came up with a good excuse for it. Before he could stop them, the words were out of his mouth. "I got a tip that your monster is back in town," he blurted out, nearly cringing a each word. He was unsure if the news - which he already knew she thought she knew - would drive her over the edge or if she would just shrug it off.
Then it hit him - she was gearing up. Maybe this was his chance to save himself from his previous comment. "Or, I guess you already know, judging from your weaponry," he said, rubbing the back of his neck with a goofy smile on his face - one that wasn't faked. He didn't need to fake it. He felt pretty goofy at the moment, after all, and was mentally scolding himself for not thinking things through. He cared for Jackie - she was one of his closest friends and would soon be the closest with Leon moving away with Tori. He couldn't leak his secret, yet, or even give any leads, no matter how small. He couldn't afford losing her friendship. Not now.

Jackie raised an eyebrow at Carter "I wonder who...well I suppose demigods must have a tight community here..." she muttered as she looked around the room making sure she didn't forget anything. Ah! She jumped away from the window grabbing her iPhone for the GPS app, since she had no intentions of not knowing where she was headed.
Placing the phone in her pocket she frowned. Then again she wouldn't need it...and it did take up room... She pulled it out placing it on her bed "Actually I'm leaving for a job," she stated. Walking back towards the window and climbing out into the ledge. Half way out she looked back in "Coming? Oh and don't forget to turn off the light," she told him.

Carter shrugged, choosing not to say anything more on the subject at risk of giving something away. Then, Jackie mentioned something about a job. "Leaving?" he asked, turning to the door, the lightswitch being beside it. "You mean it's not nearby?" he inquired, wondering if she would be alright. Flipping the switch, he crawled out the window after her and closed it, behind him, leaving a small crack just large enough for Jackie to curl her fingers under. While burglary wasn't exactly nonexistent in the Big Apple, there were millions of people to steal from. There was little chance anyone would break into Jackie's room. The fact it's the mayor's (is he the mayor or sheriff?) house would even lessen the chances.

Jackie hopped down from the ledge landing silently into the grass. Her light blue eyes looking upwards to see Carter climbing out as well. His voice being one of the many sounds heard in the not so silent night. Since New York was the city that never slept... "I'm going to go play guard for the princess," Jackie told him pointing down the street in the general direction of Tori's house.
"I need the money and Mr. Sullivan needs the guards," she told Carter with a shrug as she started heading towards Tori's place "So it's easy cash,"

Carter followed Jackie, leaping as well - an easy feat for a monster. "Guard duty, huh?" he asked. Then, he realized the client's name. It had sounded familiar, at first, but Carter's been around for centuries. He's heard plenty of names. But a Mr. Sullivan? Princess? Plus, she pointed in the general direction of where he had determined the demigoddess's house to be. She was tasked with guarding Tori. "I... um..." he was at a loss for words. "I know her," he said, finally. "Moving to some Academy in Virginia, right?" he'd heard of SCA and knew it's general location but had never been there, himself. He had no idea what Jackie might encounter - or how she'd react to Leon. After all, she did just put a bullet in his shoulder.

Jackie nodded "Yup. Apperantly she has some monsters trailing behind her so Mr. Sullivan is paying me to shot them and kill them so Tori can get to her Academy and hide behind the walls like she did before," Jackie said with a shrug faintly remembering seeing Tori come out when Jackie passed by with her friends. Though the sight of the pretty girl was rare Jackie never really cared for it.

Ooh, something the two of them had in common: A dislike for Tori. Carter only put up with her because of her relationship with his best friend - Leon. "I don't understand why he isn't just sending her to Camp," he said, truthfully. "It's so much closer and would be way safer to get to than The Academy."

Jackie frowned "She probably has never been outdoors. Honestly I would be shocked if he sent her to even the richest camp," she told him. Being mortal and not knowing the full story behind the academy or of the existence of the camp. "Plus he has all the money in the world and I hear this school is very picky and exclusive," she told him.

Carter laughed. "No, there's only two camps - Camp Half-Blood, here in New York, and Camp Jupiter which is... somewhere out west," he said, not knowing where it was but only hearing trace rumors of it. "You don't pay to get in, either. It's just a safe have for us demigods."

Jackie frowned "Then why aren't you there?" she asked him studying him. He didn't seem like the type to be all buff from fighting monsters. Then again neither did she... But Jackie did have two handguns and countless daggers on her body that were just not noticeable. So she had an excuse for not being all buff and beat up.

Carter shrugged, not really knowing how to respond. "My mother is Nyx. She's too minor to draw much attention and the monsters that do show up... well, they don't last long," he said, grinning. It wasn't an intimidating grin but one of pride and laughter. It was true in a way. Any monster that did bother him didn't last long. He didn't think twice about killing another monster. They reformed, after all.

Jackie nodded "Not bad. Maybe you can come along as a guard to then," she said flashing him a brilliant smile before checking her watch and slowing her pace. They had more time, Jackie having left the house early in order not to be late. But at this rate they would be earlier than anticipated.

Carter grinned, again, nodding. "I'm not doing anything so I don't see why not," he replied, slowing his pace, as well. "Anything to help out a fellow demigod, I guess," he said. There were humans around them as it wasn't exactly the dead of night in a back alley. Yet, Carter's sword hung at his side, as it always did. However, he'd spent centuries perfecting his deceit schemes and hiding his weapon - a celestial bronze scimitar - came naturally to him, now. It helped that he could summon a faint black mist to dampen the reflection it gave off of any light source.
