What if I wanted to break Laugh it all off in your face What would you do?
Lauren Gray was daughter of Apollo. You didn’t need to see the sun chain made of sun stone to know. You didn’t need the archery skills to tell you. You could just sense it. The warmth of the sun always surrounding her, the brightness of light in her eyes, the soothing and healing nature of her words winning you over. But she was never more than that. She was never more than daughter of Apollo, cabin leader. Skilled archer. Kind heart. She was never a real person. She was just what she was expected, it was what she did without noticing.
What if I fell to the floor Couldn't take all this anymore What would you do, do, do?
Her voice was a melody. Her hands were soft and always made you feel better, a healing property maybe, she had a way with music, a way with people. She made the light shine and bring peace. She made the air warm and soothing. She was everything you would need from the daughter of the sun. Her light blue eyes like the sky. Her brown hair rolling off the light from the sun with ease. Her attire was bright and calming. She was the sun, or a mortal version of it.
Come break me down Marry me, bury me I am finished with you
Standing in the Amphitheatre she held the mike. No nervousness. Her voice echoing around the air as the speakers blared with her song. Nobody could have a voice like a child of Apollo. It was like an angel came down and blessed you when you heard the music.
What if I wanted to fight Beg for the rest of my life What would you do?
You could feel her music touch your heart if you were musical. But the amphitheatre was empty, or at least she thought it was. She rarely sang in public, but even then it was never emotional. It was something simple, sweet, something…expected. Nothing she wanted. Ha! She rarely did what she wanted. She was obedient. She was kind hearted. She had a low self-esteem. She never thought twice about what she wanted, and she knew what she wanted. She just never went out to get it.
You say you wanted more What are you waiting for? I'm not running from you
She never told anybody what she wanted. Her father didn’t even know. And he saw everything. She never showed any displeasure with being who her father wanted her to be. She never showed displeasure in making the Olympian gods proud of Apollo, and tell him that his daughter was well raised. She never let anyone see that frustration she kept inside until moments like these, when even the Muses couldn’t match the power in her voice.
Come break me down Marry me, bury me I am finished with you
Look in my eyes You're killing me, killing me All I wanted was you
Her voice become stronger. A bit angrier as she could feel the wind blow in from the open window. The sun beaming in reminding her of who she was, who she had to be, and who she wasn’t but wanted to be. Lauren wanted nothing to do with the sun, she wanted to be an artist, she wanted to leave camp and go to college, go to one of those Christian churches and pretend like she wasn’t a demi-god. She wanted to wear black and dye her hair dark. She wanted to get a tattoo and drink until she couldn’t see anything. She wanted to forget how hard she was trying to impress the father who rarely stopped his chariot to tell her he was proud. She wanted to scream from the highest peak. She wanted to blast the speakers of her electric guitar and scream out.
I tried to be someone else But nothing seemed to change I know now, this is who I really am inside Finally found myself Fighting for a chance I know now, this is who I really am
The song then stopped. She froze holding the mike against her. Realising how into being who she wanted to be she was she dropped the mike and for a moment the sunlight dimmed, and she looked dark. Stepping into a shadow, she watched the sunlight flicker for a moment letting her know her father had already passed over, and didn’t acknowledge her once more.
Come break me down Marry me, bury me I am finished with you, you, you
Look in my eyes You're killing me, killing me All I wanted was you
The lyrics came quietly as if she was light, like she was happy. Her voice going back to the usual musical beautiful that every other child of Apollo’s was. Looking at the fallen mike she walked over and was going to pick it up when she suddently stood there staring at it. She knew what she wanted wouldn’t please her father, but he wouldn’t stop her. So what kept her? Was it the fact Chiron had repeatedly told her how happy he was about her increasing kindness, and her bond with all the gods who always welcomed her brightly. Who she prayed to equally showing to favoritism, pleasing them all.
Come, break me down Break me down Break me down
What if I wanted to break? What if I, what if I, what if I Bury me, bury me...

Julien had arrived while Lauren was in mid-song. He'd sneaked in through a back entrance, curious as to who was singing. It sounded like no one he knew. When he saw who was singing, his eyes widened, slightly, finding the perfect daughter of Apollo was behind the mike.
He began to take a step toward the girl but thought twice of it and decided to wait, sitting in a shaded seat, out of the light. As the song continued, Julien began to feel so sorry for her. She seemed torn - wanting to live up to expectation but wanting to do as she wanted, as well. But the song ended with Julien feeling sympathy for the Apollo cabin leader. He knew what it was like and envied her for finding the courage to sing about it - even if there was no audience to listen.
Walking up behind her, silent as a shadow, he wondered what he was going to say. He felt he should say something - he couldn't just leave her like this. Placing a kind, gentle hand upon her shoulder, he gave away his presence. "That doesn't sound like a song an Apollo kid would sing, especially you." Pausing, he added, "Though, maybe it isn't such a surprise." He wouldn't go on. He knew better. He wasn't going to spit out advice like he knew everything. He wasn't going to tell her to be herself, but he wasn't going to tell her to follow expectations, either. He would help her through whatever she needed help with if she asked but only if she asked.

She wouldn't have noticed him. She really could have walked out of the amphitheater and not know he was there. She honestly could've continued acting. Smiling. Pretending. But when something touched her shoulder her muscles tensed. Spinning around she came to see who it was thinking it would be one if the older campers. Her head spinning as her eyes flashed. The endless sky blue eyes stated at him startled, nervous, but bright. A forced light shone through them giving them a calming tone. The fact she was daughter of Apollo made her a bit more closer to light than others, her eyes slightly luminescent.
Lauren was silent her eyes started to become glossy but she blinked a couple times and stopped them. No words coming from her mouth as he spoke. And when speak finally came all she said was "Everybody has to have a mask...I just wear mine..." she replied in a soft musical note that sounded light and like a whisper. She wished she spoke to him more than once. But she only spoke to him to help get him from Silver, who obviously found amusement in him as her guinea pig.

Julien smiled, warmly, taking his hand from her shoulder. "Why?" was all he said in reply. He knew the answer. He was wearing his, now. There was so much hatred in his life, he felt he needed to. His father had always been kind to him - loved him. But his father, as all mortals do, died. But not only was his death untimely, it was a murder. Someone out there - who Julien still didn't know - had killed his father. Ever since then, no one else was kind to him. His grandparents despised him. His friends turned their backs. It wasn't until he'd arrived at Camp had he finally felt like he was welcomed, again. Still, there were some who hated him - though these were mostly just demigods who hated everyone. But Julien had long learned to deal with hatred. Hatred directed at him was brushed off, his own hatred toward the rest of humanity buried and hidden. He wore a mask, one he, himself, was afraid to take off.

Lauren looked him straight in the face "The only way to please people in this world is by wearing it..." her voice still quiet. She hated herself for being a people pleaser. No back bone. Too kind. Too generous. She always got the worst end because everybody knew she wouldn't complain. She was always forgotten because she didn't displease people by showing off or by winning something she knew she would win. She never did what she wanted. She never spoke for what she thought. She was a puppet. And she still is.
Lauren's eyes flared with anger at the thoughts in her mind. Her skin automatically hearing up but realizing the heat she instantly calmed down channeling her thoughts elsewhere. Anywhere but the world. The cruel sick world...

Julien nodded, sighing. "I know," he said, simply. Looking her in the eyes, his meeting hers. "I know." His eyes flooded with emotion as he remembered what he, himself, had been through. Murder, hatred, and now his life as a demigod. He wished it would end. He wished he could go back to being a normal mortal. He wished this was all just a dream. He wished so many things, none of which being to continue this life. But he would. He would always live on, taking whatever came at him without retaliation. He would voice his opinions, yes. Would he ever act on them? No, of course not. Not if someone else told him not to.

Lauren stared back at Julien and felt a warm companionship. As if someone might just get it. But she wouldn't know. She would never know...Lauren was silent. Then she spoke ending the old subject due to the fact she knew nothing else on the matter and hadn't trusted him enough yet to let him know who she felt like she should be. "So what brought you here? Planning in singing for the Valentine Dance?" she asked. She doubted it but she wasn't going to tell him. He didn't seem like the musical type...

Julien smiled, eyes filling with amusement, flushing out the sorrow and despair. "No, I'm not that talented. I'd bust people's eardrums." Pausing, he asked her the same, "How about you? Are you singing at the dance?" She had a nice voice, he could tell even though the song she'd sung wasn't the best for portraying it - far from it, actually. But the ending was sweet and gentle, as if she knew someone was watching and was placing her mask back upon her face.

Lauren laughed "As daughter of Apollo I believe I'm required to sing the romantic songs," she said with a bit of sarcasm when she said romantic. Lauren wasn't much of a dancer, sure she could. But she wasn't talented. Lauren felt herself fall back into the routine. Smile look straight into the eye, hand motions to emphasize laughter, innocent light, warm temperature, light voice, bright gaze, preppy motions...it was like a routine, one that lasted soo long and hasn't failed her yet.

Julien laughed with her a little, knowing it was all an act but not daring to point it out. He wasn't going to barge into her life claiming he had the solution to all her problems. He didn't. If she wanted his help, she would ask. Otherwise, he'd stay out of her business. He didn't know what to say, next, so he just stayed silent, looking at the daughter of the god of the sun in front of him and reflecting on just how unfair life can be.

Lauren shrugged "Son of Demeter I believe? I guess your incharge of keeping the rises alive. I think Aphrodite cabin wil have your head if the roses are dry." she told him with another laugh. The same light musical laugh as always. Lauren for one wasn't an actress, but this...this is who she is forced to be...

Julien smiled, though the mention of powers hurt. "I... I can't use my powers," he said. "I don't know how." He felt like an idiot, saying this. Everyone around him could use their powers - even Tina, who was only about half his age. But, no. No, not Julien. He never could do anything, could he?

Lauren blinked. But instead beckoned him to follow her as she lead him to the infirmary. No he wasn't going to get surgery Ti fix this. She was going to show him something. She was going to help him. "Come on you aren't the only one," she told him her blue eyes watching to make sure he followed.

Julien followed, obediently. He wondered who else couldn't use their powers as it seemed like everyone was taking their own for granted, not realizing how special they were.
(Sorry it's so short...)

Lauren entered the Infirmary and walked to the back where a strange plant was wrapped around one of the beds “Your cabin leader made this, she couldn’t control her powers very well and accidentally made this mutant occur. She gave it to the son of Hades since it was the only plant that refused to die,” she told Julien. Looking at how the light barely touched it she made the light rays stretch out to warm the plant. It’s leave opening up slightly.
