Julien shook his head, not taking letting Shade quit. "You weren't yourself," he persisted, this time with a softer, less argumental tone. "Your memories were changed - removed, even! If you had all your memories at the time, you wouldn't have done what you did."
(Sooooo pressed for time. Sorry.)

Yes, but my memories are intact now!" Shade let out a growl of frustration. "I remember it now! I remember their fear, their pain when they looked into my eyes. I remember Silene...I remember the camp burning. I'm going to destroy again, Julien. You know it's inevitable. What will I do then? I will be myself then!"
He ignored the solidifying chain protesting against his words, and they faded away as quickly as he had finished his rant. He let out a sigh and shook his head. "Nevermind, sorry..." The son of Hades kicked at the ground absentmindedly, shifting. "There's nothing to do down here but train, train, train. If it's not with Dark, it's with other monsters. It get boring after a while, fighting and killing."

Julien sighed, surrendering. "I don't have all the answers. But I'll keep telling you the same thing I've been telling you since I got down here - you're a good person in a bad situation. It's out of control and all you can do is be swept up in everything. You don't have any choice in the matter. All you can do is hope for a better future and, if we all play our cards right, that's exactly what we'll find." The son of Demeter stared at Shade for a moment, searching his eyes for any reaction. The ghost knew he didn't want to be here; to be doing all these horrible things. He also knew, though, that he had no choice but to follow orders. Otherwise, he'd be stripped of the last morsel of free will left to him - a price too high to pay.

Being stuck in such a helpless situation, to put it bluntly, was amazingly frustrating. He decided that he was taking it out on Julien like this, so he just managed a tiny nod. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets, and stared at the ground. There was a ripple in his shadow, and he turned.
"It is time for you to go train, Young Master." Dark's eerie eyes flickered towards Julien for a moment before returning to gaze at the son of Hades.
Shade paused visibly, then finally replied with a sigh, "Fine." He nodded at the ghost, a trace of doubt and helplessness in his hazel gray eyes. The next moment, he was gone. But for some reason, the shade remained behind, his swirling dark form remaining standing where he was with his arms crossed over his chest. The creature was staying in his true form in the underworld. He looked pretty much like a humanoid figure spun out of shadows, but his fingers were sharp like knives. In battle, they extended. He stared at the son of Demeter as if contemplating a punishment for him, but then spoke up softly. "Thank you for being his friend. I'm afraid if he doesn't have someone like him to talk to, he'll go insane." The monster shifted uncomfortably in his spot.

Julien was startled by Dark's sudden appearance. He watched Shade go, calling out a "See ya soon, then!" though unsure if the statement would hold true. Time was relative, even more so in the Underworld where days could go by within what seemed like mere minutes. When you are dead, there's a strange weight lifted from your shoulders you didn't even notice in life.
Then, Julien realized the shade had stayed behind. Naturally, he feared for his life. He hadn't had many good encounters with Dark and the son of Demeter didn't expect to any time soon, either. However, he was relieved when he found the shade, while intimidating, was not in a hostile state of mind. Or, at least, he didn't show it.
"It's my pleasure," Julien replied, kindly. "Shade's a nice guy."

Dark managed a small but uncomfortable smile at the ghost. He let out a sigh and turned to look around. "I keep telling you not to interfere and to stay away from I'm, but it looks like that is not going to happen anytime soon, is it? You're causing trouble for yourself, being mixed into the affairs of the living. Yet, I can't determine why I don't mind. You perplex me, Julien Roux." His ruby eyes swept over the son of Demeter, cautious and judging. A ghost who could do so little tried to constantly influence the son of Hades. Though Shade knew everything now, he could not fight back. Julien could do nothing.
Lately, Shade had been very bitter towards him, and seeing a rather normal smile upon his face was warming to say in the least. "I haven't been fulfilling my job very well lately. If I were to be removed from my post, Shade has the right to pick his next partner. If that should happen, maybe you would make a good volunteer." The creature was purely serious, waiting for Julien's reaction.

Julien returned the smile, still on edge. "I'll take that as a compliment," he replied, quietly. Looking passed Dark, watching Shade pass over the horizon, Julien wondered just where the son of Hades's allegiances truly laid. While he persisted his loyalty to his father, Aaron Shade had a tendency to rebel and the ghost could sense he was close to making a breakthrough with the demigod.
Dark's statement struck him, suddenly. Volunteer as a partner? "What do you mean?" Julien asked, perplexed by his words. "Shade chose you to be his partner? I'd always assumed you'd been assigned to him by Lord Hades."

Dark's smile this time around was genuine, sparked with a level of amusement. At first glance, he had deemed Julien as a simple coward that wasn't worth his time. Yet, he proved him wrong by persisting to interfere. He did have his will. He did follow through with his thoughts. The shade wasn't sure whether he should be frustrated or impressed by his stubbornness.
His reaction was something he expected coming. The creature gave Julien a twisted smile, "If someone had to be bound to you in both power and mind, wouldn't you want to chose who it would be? But I suppose that is both correct and incorrect. Shade binds the dead he chooses to him by some connection, friend or family. Once that spirit accepts, they are reborn as the Young Master's shade. Only Lord Hades can grant his child this privilege. I know not who I was. But if the Young Master uses my name to dissmiss me, I am dissmissed." His eyes were burning with a heated flame, but it was obvious to tell that he would not want that happening.

Julien gave the possibility a moment of thought. Becoming a shade? It seemed... unreal. Finally, he shook his head. "I don't think I like the idea," he stated, flatly. "I would love to help Shade and be there for him as a friend, but my identity is what makes me me and I don't want to lose it." Taking a few steps, the son of Demeter turned, expression serious. "Shade is my friend and I will be there for him and help him whenever he needs help, but I refuse to become a slave to Hades; my will is my own, and no one can take it from me." Without waiting for a reply, Julien turned and made his way to the beaches where, across the water, laid the Isle of the Blessed. The Underworld was peaceful, here, and Julien often visited the area to relax and attempt to forget about his worries, momentarily, and enjoy bliss. Only rarely, however, did this happen.
